Happy Sunday friends,

Hope you’ve all had a productive week. I’ve had a lovely week exploring London. My friend, Sarah and I went to Notting Hill on Wednesday, and this weekend my brother’s girlfriend, Felicia, visited me, so we got up to loads of fun things! We visited Tate Modern, went to see Wicked on the West End, and ate lots of delish food. What more can a girl ask for? This weekend was the perfect cure for those January blues. Anyway, for this week’s blog post, I wanted to talk about how I’ve been escaping these so-called January blues, as I always find it to be a trying month filled with lots of pressures and expectations. Despite getting some bad news, I’ve still managed to stay positive and below are some of the things that have helped me, including weekends like this one. You might benefit from adding these little habits to your routine too.

Become a Bookworm

I’m about to finish my first book of 2020 this week, and I’m definitely planning to keep up the reading this year. Reading has helped me to relax at night before bed and avoid going to bed with a head full of unnecessary anxieties, as I so often do. I’m currently reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz, which has definitely helped put my little troubles into perspective.

Become a Yoga Master

Since about November, Yoga has become a big part of my routine. I try to squeeze in a 30 minute session about 5-6 times a week, and I’ve never felt better. Yes, I feel a bit more confident about my body, but the main benefit for me is that after doing yoga my mind feels clear and I don’t feel as stressed. I think the focus on breathing and paying attention to your body’s movements really help you, both physically and mentally. I recommend Sanela or Adriene on YouTube because they do some amazing little sessions and they’re free!

Become an Explorer

Exploring was the main theme of this weekend. Felicia and I found lots of different places I’ve never been or haven’t been in ages. There’s always new food, new places, new movies, or new experiences to be had no matter where you live, and I think planning a few when you’re feeling down is always a good idea. It gives you something to look forward to and focus on.

Become Your Own Chef

Cooking or baking new things has become another way I’ve found joy in January. I’ve had my fair share of failures, don’t get me wrong, but I think cooking and baking are still great ways to relieve stress and treat yourself to something delish. I’m planning on making my first trifle soon, so I’ll keep you updated on how that turns out.

Thanks so much for reading this week’s blog post. What little things do you do that have helped lift your spirits this month? Special thank you to Jade for taking these lovely photos for me in Shoreditch. Follow me on my social media to see what I get up to this week as well. Anyway, have a lovely rest of January and be sure to check back next week for a new post.
