My Mini Guide to Amsterdam
Happy Sunday friends,
Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Comment down below what you’ve been up to. I had a chilled evening on Friday making cookies and watching films with my roommates and then yesterday went out to celebrate one of my friend’s birthday. For this week’s blog post, as promised, I’m recapping what Savannah and I got up to while in Amsterdam and what I recommend you do too, if you go yourself. Overall, it was such an amazing city and one of my favorite places I’ve ever been. I’m definitely going to be going back, hopefully in the spring or summer next time. Below are my must-see spots, meals to-die-for, and things we did while in the gorgeous city of Amsterdam.
Traditional Dutch Dinner
A traditional Dutch meal is a must while in Amsterdam, and Moeder’s is perfect for just that. Moeder’s, meaning Mother’s in Dutch, is known for its home-cooked comfort food. The walls of the restaurant are also covered in photos of mothers so if you want, you can bring a photo of your own mum to add to the wall. I went for the traditional beef stew, called Suddervlees, and I would definitely recommend.
Canal boat tour
A great way to learn about Amsterdam while seeing some gorgeous sights, is by hopping on a canal boat tour. We did this on a rainy morning, and it was the perfect way to see the city, when the weather wasn’t exactly cooperating.
Boutique Shop down the nine streets
You can’t go to a new city without hitting up some of the local shops, and the Nine Streets are the perfect place to do this in Amsterdam. You’ll find gorgeous new brands you’ve never heard of, eclectic little trinket shops, and cozy cafes to grab a bite in-between shopping. Savannah and I both got gorgeous faux fur hats as our little fashion purchase of the trip. (See my hat below.)
Eggy brekky
For breakfast or brunch while in Amsterdam, I recommend going to Omlegg for a signature omelette or a cheeky croissant breakfast sandwich like we did! The environment is great with its hanging plants and open kitchen where you can watch your breakfast being made. We also hit up Mr. Stacks for vegan pancakes on another morning. (See these gorgeous creations above.) Be sure to pick up a traditional Stroopwafel in the street food markets if you need a midday sweet treat as well.
Instagram Spot At Damrak
Damrak is the perfect place to stop at if you want to get the well-known Amsterdam backdrop. Although, you can find cute side streets all along the canals, Damrak is the perfect spot to avoid bikes and cars and still get an amazing photo. The canal is also wider here, so the buildings reflect perfectly against the water.
van gogh museum
I’m always up for a museum while in another city, and our museum of choice this trip was the Van Gogh museum. There are some amazing famous works that everyone is bound to recognize here and lots of spots to read more about Van Gogh’s life.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. I hope you enjoyed reading about our mini trip to Amsterdam. Comment down below if you’ve been before and what you enjoyed while there. I recommend everyone takes a trip there at some point. If you are planning a trip there yourself and have any questions, don’t hesitate to message me. Also, shout out to Savannah for coming on this mini trip with me and taking some gorgeous photos for me! She’s such a gem. Check in again next week for another blog post and follow me on social media in the mean time. Have an amazing week you gorgeous people!
