Why You Should Shop Vintage - Varsity Vibes

Happy Sunday,

I hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday eve or whenever you’re reading this little post of mine. This weekend I had a minor operation so I’ve not been as busy as usual which I’ve found quite annoying. You know me, I like to be busy, but I’ve had to take it a bit more easy that usual. Today I did manage to shoot four outfits with my fellow fashion-loving friend, Millie. We were also graced by some gorgeous sunny weather here in London, so we were very grateful. Our little photoshoot session was capped off by a very lovely catch up and some delish vanilla pancakes at Caravan. What have you been up to this weekend?

Inspired by this gorgeous vintage jacket and matching jumper, I wanted to talk about secondhand fashion this week. I’ve talked previously about why I love shopping vintage (see blog post here), but for this post I thought I would share some more reasons I think you should turn to shopping vintage instead of shopping on the high street whether it’s to help you’re community or to feel more inspired.

Shop for the Story

This jacket and sweater are kindly on loan to me from long-time family friends, Cindy & Bill. Knowing that there is another life, a story behind these pieces makes them even more special to me and I’m even more excited to wear them.

Support Small Business

By shopping in your local vintage market or even small online vintage shop, you’re supporting your community. I recommend checking your nearby vintage shops for unique pieces you’re on the hunt for. If you see something that catches your eye in the high street shop window, try to find an alternative elsewhere. For example, I’d seen lots of varsity-style jackets popping up in popular shops that I liked, but I wanted to find one that I knew no one else would have. I’m glad I waited for this gem!

Foster Creativity

Because a lot of vintage items are in styles that aren’t currently in shops, it’s a chance to get more creative and it can be seen as sort of a style challenge. Try styling a piece in a style you don’t see on trend at the minute and you might just start a new trend yourself!

Thank you for reading this week’s blog post. I hope you’ll give vintage shopping a chance next time you’re on the hunt for a new addition to your wardrobe. Leave a comment with one vintage or second-hand item that you cherish in your wardrobe. Hope you all have an amazing week and check back here next Sunday for a new post.
