The Big Rebrand: From The Style Transplant to A Girl Called George

She’s back and she’s got big news. I hope you’ve all been well over the past couple weeks and apologies for the lack of blog posts. Life has just been a whirlwind recently. For example, I just got back from Paris a couple days ago. I was there for work attending my first ever Paris Fashion Week. It was amazing and there so much to tell, but you’ll have to wait for next week’s post for the big Paris Fashion Week catch-up.
For this blog post, I wanted to explain the reason behind my name change on Instagram and a bit of a rebrand in the works. I’m not sure if you have noticed, but my previous Instagram name @thestyletransplant has now become @thegirlcalledgeorge. While it may seem a bit out of the blue for you guys, I’ve actually been thinking about this for a long time now. Over the past two years, I’ve been thinking it might be time for a change. Below are some of the reasons behind this rebrand.
The TRansplant REturned
In case you weren’t aware, the reason behind the name “The Style Transplant” was that I was “transplanted” from the UK to the USA at a young age with my dad’s job. My sense of style has always been influenced by both countries. While I still feel like this is true about my style, I’ve been back in the UK, London specifically, for over three years now. I’m essentially not as much of a transplant now that I’ve returned to the homeland haha. While I still feel a bit out of place back here in the UK, it does feel like home and I don’t consider myself as much of a “transplant” anymore.
Networking Nellie
With my job in the fashion industry, networking has become key in my life. This means people need to remember me for future successful business occasions. I’ve noticed recently that people who I was networking with in person were having a hard time finding me on social media because my name wasn’t in my username. This reason propelled the name change in a big way.
My Name is My Brand
I’ve been thinking about this change for a couple years now as mentioned before. Like many other influencers and people in the industry, I’ve learned over time that my name is my brand more than anything else. It is what truely makes me unique, especially as I’m the only girl called George that I’ve ever known. (George is in fact my real name. Not Georgia or Georgette or anything else…it really is George. Thanks Mum and Dad! haha) I also feel as though people in person do think of me or remember me as “the girl called George”, hence the reason for the new name.
