Successorizing
Happy Sunday guys,
Hope you’ve all had an amazing week and weekend. I feel as though I’ve had a pretty successful week. I’ve been doing some DIY projects, shooting new content for here and Instagram, eating yummy food and yesterday we visited Richmond Park and saw some deer up close and personal. Comment down below with what you’ve been up to this weekend.
For today’s post, I wanted to talk about a new fashion term, successorizing. It was mentioned on the Netflix series Love on the Spectrum, and I was inspired to interpret and write my own blog post to go along with the term. Basically, the term is referring to “dressing for success,” but in this case it’s accessorizing for success. I’ve mentioned how accessories can completely change an outfit in previous blog posts (see here), and they come in many shapes and forms, whether that’s scarves, jewellery, hair clips, bags, belts, or hats. Because of this, many people can find accessorizing intimidating, but today I wanted to give you some tips on successfully choosing your own accessories, or should I say successorizing.
Balancing Exercises
Balance is the key to successorizing. It’s very easy to over accessorize and overwhelm a whole look or under accessorize for low impact. I recommend choosing one or two bolder pieces and then using more delicate, understated accessories to highlight those. For this outfit, I chose a bold black belt and black sunnies from Floucia to be my key pieces and then I used delicate gold jewelry to finish off the look.
Consider setting
Being a successful accessorizer depends greatly on what pieces you wear to different events, workplaces, and day-to-day. Day-to-day, think more simple, while at an event, try bolder accessories like a statement necklace or bold bag.
Don’t be tOo Matchy-Matchy
Of course matching accessories in some sense is good, however wearing a matching belt, necklace, bag, and shoes is a bit overwhelming and can date an outfit. Try wearing shades that are slightly different or only matching a couple of items and use neutrals to off-set the matching items.
Flattery for the Win
Choosing accessories that flatter your best features is a skill to always have in your pocket. If you want to accentuate your waist, wear a belt like I am here. If you want to highlight your face, frame it with some statement earrings or a cute headscarf. If you have nice legs, wear a shiny anklet. Identify your best features and then work to highlight them with your accessories.
