Happy Monday friends,

Sorry for the day-late blog post. I had a busy weekend of finally catching up with friends and eating delish food post-lockdown. It feels as though London is returning to a bit of normalcy. We’re required to wear masks in shops and on public transport, but not in restaurants. It felt so normal to hang out with a few friends in a pub chatting away all night (socially distanced from everyone else of course). I also went over to my friend, Jade’s house, for a takeaway and a much-needed face-to-face catch up. What did you guys get up to this weekend? How are you feeling about COVID in your area? Comment down below.

This week I wanted to dedicate a blog post to the books I’ve been reading this year and give you guys a mini review to go along with each one. Recently, I’ve really rekindled my love for reading. I can’t believe I stopped in the first place to be honest. Lockdown was the perfect time to escape into a fictional world and below are the books that helped me do just that.

Tattooist of Auschwitz

The first book I read this year was The Tattooist of Auschwitz. While it was of course horrific in parts, it was even more positive, uplifting, and romantic. This book gave me hope in a time when I was feeling very uncertain about my own circumstances and made me feel so grateful for what I do have. It follows the true love story of two Holocaust victims and how they overcame every possible obstacle. (Shop here)

Women in the Window

Woman in the Window is my favorite book that I’ve read this year so far. This book was so thrilling and intriguing that I couldn’t put it down. It’s definitely one of my favorite reads of all time. The book follows the story of a woman who has agoraphobia, or fear of the outside world, and how she witnesses a murder from her own window. If you love a good murder mystery, this is the one for you. (Shop here)

My Sister, the Serial Killer

This book was an amazingly different murder mystery and an insight into life in Laos. Nigerian-born writer, Oyinkan Braithwaite, keeps you on the edge of the seat and somehow feeling sympathetic towards a murderer and her sister. This book is so well written and turns the typical murder mystery on it’s head. (Shop here)

This is Going to Hurt

If you’re interested in the medical world whatsoever, I recommend giving this book a read! This book had me laughing and nearly crying every other chapter. This is Going to Hurt is filled with the heartwarming and hilarious true stories of working in the medical field. I have always been a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, ER, and similar medical related content and this was such an important and entertaining insight into a world I always want to know more about. (Shop here)

Can You See Her?

This book was another very different murder mystery. It’s hard not to give too much away, but you follow the story of a middle-aged woman who may or may not have committed a string of murders in her area, and even she’s not quite sure. Can You See Her? keeps you guessing until the very last page. (Shop here)

The Child Next Door

Can you tell I like mysteries yet? The Child Next Door is another intriguing mystery about a woman who’s not sure if she’s losing her mind or if someone really is trying to steal her baby. This book was a pretty easy read and kept me interested the whole time. It has you jumping from one guess to another as to what is really going on and is totally unpredictable. (Shop here)

The Silent Patient

The Silent Patient keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire way through as you read the point of view of both a psychologist and his patient, who has refused to speak since she murdered her husband. It is the perfect combination of psychology, murder, and art. For any psychology majors out there, this one’s for you. (Shop here)

The Paris Seamstress

The Paris Seamstress is my current read, so this is just a review of what I’ve read so far. While this book has a slow start, I’m really getting into it now. Maybe I was missing the element of mystery or murder at the beginning, but this book covers two amazing stories that span the lives of a grandmother and her granddaughter and how their stories connect through their mutual passion for fashion. This is a new kind of romance novel and has a mystery woven in. I can’t wait to update you on how the second half of the book goes. (Shop here)

Thank you so much for reading this week’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading my mini book reviews. Be sure to check out my post from last week here about easy sustainable tips you can incorporate into your wardrobe.
