Cottagecore Chic

Happy Sunday friends,

Hope you’re all having a lovely and restful weekend. Yesterday I had a gorgeous brunch at a place called Linnaean with my friend Martina and then spent the evening eating a yummy dish made by my roommate, Katie, and watched Woman in the Window (my favourite book I read last year) on Netflix. Today I’ve been out creating content with the lovely Millie and catching up after both of our recent birthdays. Now I’m prepping for a busy week ahead at work. What have you gotten up to this weekend?
Anyway, for today’s blog post, I wanted to talk about a new trend sweeping the fashion and social media worlds that you might have heard of, Cottagecore. Cottagecore, which originally cropped up in 2018 on Tumblr is now making a comeback thanks to TikTok. It is the idealization of all things rural, countryside related, and peacefulness. This applies to fashion as well! One might use words like pastoral, cozy, tranquil, simple, wholesome, vintage, natural, and nostalgia when describing Cottagecore. Having survived the last year and a half of the pandemic, I think we’ve all realized how important nature and mindfulness really is, which is why Cottagecore ideals seam to be soaring. Below are three categories where you can incorporate some Cottagecore values into your own life.

Fashion

To get that cottage-chic look, you’re going to need corseted or fitted bodices, puffy sleeves, and floral or toile prints. Also think pastel colours to relay that sense of calmness. Vintage fabrics and silhouettes are also very key to nailing this trend. Finish off your look with some braid and soft waves. I chose this Laura Ashley toile print dress, a tweed blazer, and a headscarf to create my Cottagecore look.

Hobbies

Cottagecore inspired hobbies include things like gardening, sewing, reading, baking, and other calm and relaxing tasks that aren’t stressful. Try to practice mindfulness while performing these tasks rather than letting your mind wander to stressful and consuming thoughts. Tasks that don’t include much technology are also key.

Food

When you’re thinking about Cottagecore food, think baked goods like pies and crumbles, fresh salads, and homemade bread and cheese. Think fresh, seasonal ingredients and you’re well on your way to becoming a cottage queen.
