What Inspires My Outfits
Happy Sunday friends,
Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Comment down below what you’ve been up to. This was our last weekend of lockdown here in the UK…hopefully (saying this with a lot of caution after going through three lockdowns). On Monday, outdoor dining and non-essential shops are opening up here, so feeling very excited for the week ahead even though we’ve still got quite chilly weather. What plans have you made for easing of lockdown? I’m mostly just excited to eat in a restaurant again and maybe do a bit of window shopping. Online shopping just isn’t the same, is it.
Anyway, on to this week’s blog post, I wanted talk about some of the places I find inspiration for my outfits. For this look, for example, I was thinking sunsets, Aperol spritz, fresh fruits stand, and even the London Overground (see below). I find inspiration all around me, really, but there are a few stand-out places that always seem to ignite new ideas. Below are my top places to find outfit inspiration when you’re feeling hopeless and uninspired.
Instagram & Pinterest
Of course, the most obvious place I find inspiration is from other creators on platforms like blogs and social media! I recommend following people whose style you admire, so you can refer to their page if you need some last minute inspo. Rather than completely copying others though, I try to combine elements of my favourite creators to come up with my own style. Some of my favourite creators and stylists include Emili Sindlev, Leonie Hanne, Justauniform, _jennaus, Emma Louise Proudlock, and Megan Ellaby.
Food
Food might sound a bit unexpected, but have you ever been sipping a fancy cocktail or eating an aesthetically pleasing brunch and just thought…”this looks too good to eat or drink”? Next time this happens, use it to inspire your next look! Take a photo and try to match colours or textures to create a new look. I know Megan Ellaby says one of her outfits was inspired by avocado and tuna on toast before!
Nature
As mentioned above, a sunset was one of the inspiring factors for this look. I also find inspiration from flowers, the ocean, animals and other natural things. For example, I once saw a Dalmatian in a pink collar that helped inspire one of my outfits.
Art
Another great place to find colour and print outfit inspo is art. I love walking around galleries and snapping photos of my favourite pieces or finding art on Pinterest to use to create a new outfit later.
Thank you for reading this week’s blog post. The moral of the story is that inspiration for what you wear can come from anywhere. Leave a comment with places you’ve found inspiration before. A special shout goes to fellow stylist, Millie, for taking these photos for me. Check out her gorgeous profile here. Also shop my outfit below if you’d like to recreate it. Have an amazing week guys and check back next Sunday for a new post!
