Happy Sunday lovelies,

Hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. As per the usual, I’ve been running in the mornings, walking with friends, and trying to squeeze in a few cheeky takeaways here and there. What have you been doing to stay busy? The good news is that next month outdoor dining and pubs are opening here in the UK!

For this week’s blog post, I wanted to talk about some more little steps you can take to becoming a more sustainable fashion consumer. I’ve talked about some of these in a previous blog post. Read it here. Keep reading to check out my next little tips.

The Rule of 30

The first tip to being more sustainable when thinking of purchasing a new item is to ask yourself “will I wear this at least 30 times?” This question will help you weed out the items you won’t actually get your wear out of. Pieces you won’t wear 30 times will tend to be fast fashion pieces that are a waste of your money as well as harming the planet in the process.

Donate or Sell Unwanted Pieces

There’s nothing more fulfilling than a closet clear out, but where should these exiled clothes go? If they’re in good condition, sell them on secondhand sites, like Depop, or donate to your local charity shop. Chances are, you might be done wearing a piece, but someone else might have had there eye out for that exact item. If the condition isn’t great try to think of other ways to reuse the pieces such as wearing them to paint in, making scarves, or cutting them into cleaning cloths.

Learn to Repair Your Favourite Pieces

Learning to repair clothing can be a great way to lengthen the lifespan of your pieces as well as keeping slightly damaged items from ending up in the landfill. There are plenty of YouTube videos on how to sew or alter pieces. (I’ve used one recently to learn how to alter trousers.)

Invest in trans-seasonal Pieces

When purchasing new items, another thing to keep in mind is whether or not a pieces can be worn through more than one season. If it can, you will probably wear it more and get your key 30 wears. For example, I love long sleeve tops and dresses because I know I can basically wear them year-round here in the UK.

Stay Informed

Last, but not least, staying informed about what is going on in the world of sustainable fashion is key. If you follow sites like Business of Fashion and Sustain Your Style on social media, you can easily stay informed about all the exciting news going on in the fashion world.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog post. Let me know down below which of these tips you’re going to try to put into practice. A special shout out goes to Lucy for taking these gorgeous images for me. Check out her amazing work here. Check back next week for a new blog post and in the mean time, follow me on Instagram. Have a killer week guys!
