Tips for Keeping Busy While Social Distancing
Hello fellow self-isolating friends,
Hope you’re all coping with being cooped up indoors. I must admit, I’m finding it a lot more difficult than expected. Personally, I’m quite a homebody and an introvert, but I think it’s the uncertainty of not knowing how long this will last and worrying about elderly family members that have got me feeling the most anxious. This is a crazy time we’re living in, and we must remember to breathe and stay positive. So, let’s focus on happier things! For this blog post, I’ve come up with some things you can do to keep yourself busy during this weird time.
Enjoy the Fresh Air
I think now, more than ever, we are learning to appreciate the outdoors. Those living in busy cities, especially, can forget about the beauty of a little vitamin D and fresh air sometimes. Of course, avoid others while you’re out, but I do recommend trying to get some fresh air when possible. I’ve started running and even doing some workouts in the park so I can enjoy a bit of time in the sun. I find that it's an instant mood booster, so take advantage of this sunny spring weather.
Revisit Old Hobbies or Start a New One
Now is the perfect time to pick up hobbies new and old! Indoor amusement is key, so I recommend doing things like painting, knitting, reading, cooking, baking, learning a new language, blogging, or playing an instrument. Personally, I’ve been drawing a lot more and I’m planning to start embroidering and painting again. Now is the free time you’ve been waiting for, so get your hobby on!
Catch Up With Old Friends
Even though you might not be able to catch up with them in person, why not pay a little more attention to your relationships? I think it’s import to keep up social interactions even though it can’t be in person right now. I’ve been trying to schedule video calls with friends throughout the week, and it’s been lovely to catch up with everyone and get my mind off the pandemic for a while. By keeping in close contact with loved ones, you’ll feel even more supported and positive. It might even make you look forward to the future when you can plan in-person hangouts again.
Show Yourself Some Love
Not only should you be giving more time to others, but you should also be giving more time for yourself. I recommend taking a bath, doing a face mask, or just dancing in the mirror. I’ve written a whole blog post about learning to self-love, so check that out here. It’s time to give yourself a little pamper.
Get Your Spring Clean On
Now, more than ever, it’s important to focus on hygiene. This time of year is typically known for deep cleaning anyway, so why not use your time wisely and keep yourself healthy too? I’m planning on clearing out my closet and I’ve been on top of wiping down all surfaces, bathrooms, etc. Take spring cleaning in your stride.
Thanks for reading this week’s blog post. If you’re looking for even more things to keep you busy and positive, I also came up with some ideas in my “How I’ve Escaped the January Blues” post a couple months ago.
