Fashion Challenge: Make a Hoodie Stylish

Hello friends,

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend, despite the weird virus hysteria. I’m trying to not think too much about it and just get on with my life haha.

For this week’s post, I wanted to challenge myself to style something I don’t normally consider part of my everyday wardrobe; a hoodie. I know it’s a staple in most peoples casual wardrobes, but I wanted to see how I could make this cozy piece more fashion-forward. Below are my tips for styling this usually quite casual piece for a more fashionable outfit.

Tailored to You

Because hoodies are typically seen as a casual piece, I recommend contrasting them with something more tailored and sophisticated. This will naturally elevate the hoodie. I recommend pairing with a blazer, like I’ve done here, or a tailored coat, trench coat, or skinny jean.

Fitted Form

Throw out your matching joggers and pair your hoodie with something unexpected instead. I don’t recommend wearing something slouchy on the bottom of your look. Instead, go for something more fitted to juxtapose the looseness of a hoodie. Having a tighter fitting item will make the outfit look more sophisticated and polished, even if it’s just a jean.

Pop of Colour

The best way for a hoodie not to be confused with the workout wear, is to choose one in a unique colour in the first place. Obviously, you don’t have to go for one quite as bright as mine, but colour does help separate them from sweats. A pop of colour makes a hoodie more interesting and therefore more fashionable.

Contrast Materials & Fabrics

Because hoodies are typically made from quite soft, cozy fabric, another way to make them look more polished is to contrast them with a different texture. Leather, faux leather, denim, or other stiffer fabrics are great to contrast the softer sweats material (think leather trousers, a fluffy coat, or denim jacket).

Layer for Dayz

Typically, a hoodie on its own is not going to look put together. Layering or adding more elements to your look will instantly help. Throw on a polo neck underneath and a biker jacket on top and your look is not only warmer, but instantly cooler.
Thanks so much for reading this week’s blog post. As always, I’m so appreciative! Let me know if you’re planning to take your hoodie from the gym to the runway. If you’re stuck in your house because of corona, def take a minute to check out some of my other posts and follow me on social media where I’ll be trying to keep things as jolly and normal as possible. Also, let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to write blog posts on, as I’ll try to give you some more reading material for if you’re sitting at home. If you’re looking to do some online shopping, remember, you can shop my outfit below too. Have a lovely and hopefully not too boring week. Stay happy and healthy friends!
