How to Style a Tennis Skirt
Happy Sunday friends,
Hope you’re all having a lovely Sunday. Leave a comment with what you’ve been up to below. This weekend has been a fairly quiet one as my roommates have been away camping. Friday evening was spent making a prawn and coconut laksa, which I must admit was quite delish! Yesterday, I went for a run in Victoria Park and treated myself to a coffee and cinnamon pastry, while I watched the dogs and children run around. Then I spent the day reading and painting my nails in the garden. Today I had a much needed lie in and then went for yoga in the park. I’ve been in the back garden again today reading and writing this blog post. Treating myself to a takeaway tonight for dinner I think and then we have our weekly pub quiz. Anyway, let’s get on to talk about this gorgeous little tennis skirt.
For this week’s post, I’ve made a video of just a few examples of how I’ve been styling my new tennis skirt. (View the video here.) I literally have to stop myself from reaching for it every morning because it’s so comfortable, cool, and cute. The tennis skirt is definitely a must-have item for summer 2020, and below, I’ve put some tips together on how you can style up your own. The great thing about a tennis skirt is that it can be styled so many different ways. You can go more sporty with some Nike socks and a tank, edgy with some Dr. Martins, preppy with a checked blazer, or you can go the more feminine route. These tips below can apply to any of these personal styles.
Choose Carefully
Step one to styling a tennis skirt is choosing the right one in the first place. If you want to accentuate your waist, look for one that’s high waisted like mine. To elongate your legs, choose one that is flared or looser on your thighs and is a bit shorter. Pleats are a good way to disguise areas you’re not as keen on as well.
Crop or Tuck
Top wise, it’s best to go for something that is already cropped or tuck it in to really show off the flattering shape of your tennis skirt. This will highlight your waist and show off the skirt more.
At the Ankle
Nearly any type of shoe goes with a tennis skirt, but I’ve noticed ankle boots or ankle socks seem to be the most flattering with this mini style. In this video, I’ve styled mine with two different pairs of ankle boots, as well as my trainers with Nike ankle socks. I think a pair of white pumps with some fun, colourful socks would be ideal too.
Taste the Rainbow
While I do think an all white ensemble would look amazingly chic with this skirt, I think the real beauty of it is that you can play with colour more. As you can see in my video, I tried lots of different colour combos and had fun mixing and matching shades. A blank canvas piece, like this skirt, makes it easy to experiment with colour a bit more.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Are you going to get yourself a tennis skirt for the summer? Even if you’re just planning to wear it while doing sports, I definitely recommend investing in one. I’ve got links to my outfit below along with some alternative tennis skirts for you to shop. It’s such a comfortable and versatile summer piece. Anyway, be sure to check in next week for another blog post and follow me on social media in the mean time. I’ve made it to 4k followers on Instagram so thank you to everyone who’s supported me on there! Have a lovely week friends.
