Learning to Love a New City in Lockdown
Happy Sunday lovelies,
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Sorry for the lack of post last week. I’m just getting all mixed up with the days in lockdown, I must admit. Who else is finding it hard to keep track during lockdown? Have you been up to anything exciting this week? I’ve finished my couch to 5k app, baked some orange scones, made a delish sea bass dinner, and took some new photos for the blog and Instagram.
I’m not sure if you know, but I’ve been spending lockdown with my brother and his lovely girlfriend up in Newcastle. Other than the odd visit here once or twice, I had never really experienced Newcastle until my brother moved up here. He’s shown me all of his favorite spots, but I never really got to spend longer than a few days up here and I’ve never explored it on my own. One would argue that you always experience a city differently when you explore alone. It’s more intimate. Obviously I’ve had Fergus and Felicia with me a lot, but I’ve also gotten to know the city on my own as well during this lockdown. Even though I can’t visit a lot of places I want to, I am learning to love it here.
Exercising Outdoors
One way I’ve gotten to see a lot of Newcastle, even during lockdown, is by running almost every morning. (Feeling pretty proud of myself for finishing the app if you can’t tell lol.) Running has definitely been a great way to explore the city during this time. I’ve gotten to know the Quayside quite well, and I love seeing the river, bridges, and architecture in the area. Like many cities in the UK, Newcastle has such an interesting mix of new and old architecture.
Essential Shop
Going out for the essential shopping has been another way I’ve learned the lay of the land up here in Newcastle. I’ve always enjoyed city walks, but it’s obviously more essential now that public transport isn’t as safe. Going to different drugstores and shops for our weekly shop has given me some good exercise along with taking in more sites of Newcastle.
While it’s very different from London, I am finding that I really do like Newcastle, especially the Quayside. Newcastle has some great outdoor spaces. The cooler temperature has been harder for me to get used to though, I must admit (I’m always cold anyway lol). Have you ever been to Newcastle? If so, what do you love the most about it. A special thank you goes to Felicia for taking these shots for me on one of our lockdown walks. She’s the best and I’m loving coming up with photo ideas with her. Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Check back next week for a new post. Have a lovely week!
