Life During Lockdown: What I've Learned

Hello friends,

Hope you’ve all had another good week in lockdown. I know it’s not easy being cooped up, but it’s definitely for the best right now. What things have you been doing this week to keep busy? I’ve been drawing, baking and icing biscuits, reading, painting my nails, and Facetiming friends. It’s kept me busy enough, but I had a couple of down days, as I think we all have. It’s hard when there doesn’t seem to be much of an ending in site, but I wanted to reflect this week, after being in lockdown for a month, about some of the things I’ve learned during this strange and trying time.

This blog post is all about what I’ve learned and how it’s changed my outlook on life after lockdown. Comment down below what you think lockdown has taught you.

Don’t Take Dressing Up For Granted

Understandably, one of the biggest things I’ve missed during lockdown is wearing some of my favorite clothes. I know it’s definitely not one of our biggest issues right now, but my clothes are a big source of joy to me. I never thought I’d hate yoga pants and hoodies so much to be honest. I can’t wait to throw on some uncomfortable shoes and a cute dress to walk around London again.

Show Someone You Love How Much They Mean to You

I’ve personally never been a huge hugger. It’s just not my favorite thing in the world, but you better believe that I’m never going to take a hug from my parents a cuddle with my dog, or an embrace from my grandma for granted ever again. I think this time has taught us not how important it is to show the people we love how much they mean to us, but we’ve also learned of new ways to do that. Whether it’s putting a rainbow up in your window to brighten a stranger’s day or calling your grandparents or starting a weekly Facetime tradition with your family, there’s so many ways we’ve learned to show that we care.

Always Use Free Time Wisely

I think another important thing I’ve learned is that we will never have free time like this ever again. I’ve been trying my best to use this time wisely and really enjoy it, because I know in the future, I won’t have this kind of free time. Now is the time to do the things you’ve always wanted to, because you might never have the time again.

It’s Ok to Have Down Days

While I think I’ve remained positive the majority of days under lockdown, I do think it’s acceptable to have bad days too. We see so much positivity constantly on social media and make ourselves feel so bad if we’re happening to have a bad day. Lockdown has taught me that this is normal and everyone experiences better days than others. It’s completely normal. We just have to accept our feelings and learn to find positivity where and when we can.

Thank you so much for reading this week’s post. Comment down below what you’ve learned from being in lockdown or what you can’t wait to do as soon as it’s over. I can’t wait to visit my grandparents without fear of passing anything on to them. I think one of the best things we can do for our mental states right now is to look to the future and think about the things we have to look forward to once this is all over. Special thank you to the lovely Lucy for taking these photos for me pre-lockdown. Check out her Instagram here and show her some love. Remember to check out my social media for updates throughout the week and check back next week for a new post!
