Clueless? A Guide to Finding Your Personal Style
Hi you lovely people,
Hope you’re doing well on this fine fall Sunday. Hope all my lovely friends and fam here in the UK are doing ok after the announcement of a second lockdown last night. The good news is we made it through the first, so we will definitely be able to make it through this one! Hopefully this mini lockdown will help make it safer for us all around Christmas time.
For this week’s blog post, I wanted to explore how to find your own personal style. I get asked all the time “But Georgie, how do I find my own personal style?” It’s a common feeling to be lost or confused when it comes to defining your personal style, especially if you tend to flit from trend to trend. Others of you may ask “well, why is it important for me to define my style anyway?” Personally, I think knowing your own style is important for making future purchases that you will actually wear and will last in your wardrobe rather than being a wear-once kind of deal. Below, I’ve come up with the best ways to find your personal style.
Repeat Outfits You Love
The perfect way to define your own style is to repeat outfits you feel the most confident in. For example, the outfit I’m wearing in this blog post is a staple combination for my style. You will often see me in various check skirts and tops. (See blog posts here and here.) Styling these similar silhouettes will help you find out what your style is. Top Tip: If you wear an outfit you really love, take a photo of the outfit and store it in a folder on your phone for when you’re having a dreaded ‘I have nothing to wear’ day.
Create a Fashion Mood Board
Sometimes an external, visual element is more beneficial in defining your sense of style. Use apps like Pinterest to help you create a log of looks you love and could see yourself wearing. You will start to see similarities among these looks.
Define Key Pieces
Go into your wardrobe and pin point the top 7 pieces you wear the most. These pieces will help you put yourself in a style category and will help you make future purchases to compliment the pieces you already love wearing over and over.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Comment down below how you’d describe your own style. Special thank you to my girl, Lucy for taking these gorg photos. Always have the best time shooting with this lovely talented gal. Find her Instagram here! Shop my outfit below if you’re interested! I’m obsessed with this skirt. Also remember to check back next week for a new post featuring more gorg shots taken by Lucy. Have a great first week of second lockdown guys! We can do this!
