My Book Recommendations: Fashion & Otherwise
Happy Sunday lovelies,
Today, I thought I'd touch upon some of my favorite books, some based on fashion and others just amazingly well-written stories. I'll go into why I love each book and why I think you should give it a try yourself. Also, one of the personal goals I've set for myself this year (and one I set for myself nearly every year, but don't always succeed in), is to read more books. With that in mind, I'd love if you could leave your recommendations down below so I can start compiling a list and then reading!
Capture Your Style
This is a fairly new read for me and I haven't read all of it yet, but if you're interested in Instagram or blogging whatsoever, this is the book for you! Renowned fashion blogger, Aimee Song, has compiled everything she's learned during her years on social media platforms into one lovely and easy to comprehend book. It covers everything from styling outfits, to taking the perfect Instagram image, to choosing the perfect name for your blog/Instagram/ YouTube etc. This book is essentially the manual for having a successful social media presence.
The Book Thief
The Book Thief is my all time favorite book. I've read it twice and both times felt almost inspired to write a book of my own just because of how poetic and beautifully written this book is. It is about a young girl, Liesel, who was put up for adoption during WWII because her mother was a communist. She is adopted by a loving German family who later also harbor a Jewish man. The story portrays the horrors, confusion, and destruction of WWII through the innocent eyes of young Liesel. You should definitely give this one a read!
Harry Potter Series
This is a series I am currently working my way through for the first time! (I know! I think I'm the only one!) If you have never read them before, or maybe a long long time ago, I definitely recommend reading them! Being such a huge HP fan, I find these books so comforting and calming (the perfect read before bed). I know what's going to happen, but all the little details and snippets you pick up on the way are pure perfection. My favorite movie is The Prisoner of Askaban, but I'm excited to see which book will be my favorite (I'll keep you updated).
Fashion Box
This book is essentially your crash course into fashion. It covers 16 timeless pieces, the iconic women who've rocked them, how they've been styled, and how they are being reinvented and re-styled today! If you have these essentials in your wardrobe, this book will be an ultimate source of outfit inspiration! I especially love looking through the pages on how the pieces were styled in the past and bringing some of those vintage elements into my modern wardrobe. (Plus it has my girl, Sarah Jessica Parker, on the front so it's perfection!)
The Last Summer
The Last Summer is the perfect book to read with your toes in the sand and some background noise of the ocean. This is another calming and easy read. It's about two sisters whose family have been going to the same beach every year since they were tiny children. It's a story about change, relationships, and an easy-going beach lifestyle.
The Great Gatsby
A book most of you probably read in high school is the Great Gatsby. This was another book that made me feel really inspired by the poetic writing. I recommend re-reading if you read it in high school and didn't quite love it. It's set in the glamourous New York City, during the age of flapper girls, speakeasies, and art deco architecture. It's a twisted story of love, heartbreak, and crime described through incredibly creative and inquisitive metaphors.
As always, thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the interweb. If you have read any of these books let me know what you think and also leave your book suggestions below!
