What to Wear for Your Next Video Call
Happy Sunday all,
Hope you’re still staying safe and healthy. Comment down below what you’ve been up to, because you know I’m nosey. This week I’ve started an online course about fashion and sustainability, which has been super interesting. I’ve also made a few new dinners, like my mum’s beef stew and herb dumplings, which was almost delish as her’s. I’ve been doing my usual running and had two picnics in the sunshine while reading my new book. (I think I’ve picked up a bit of a tan actually.) I got some fun new photos for the blog and Instagram as well, but let’s get on to this week’s post.
After many a weekly quizzes, countless coffee catch-ups, and video call board gaming sessions, I’ve learned a thing or two about what we should be wearing during these primarily seated and still get-togethers. Business on top and party on the bottom is my new mantra for all these video calls.
Throw On The Bling
Now’s the time to throw on your best bling. Jewellery spices up any outfit and now that we’re mostly confined to video meet-ups that are only showing the top half of our outfits, it’s even more crucial.
Blazer Best
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, blazers solve all your sophistication problems. I’ve been throwing my blazer over even the most casual of looks, and I instantly feel video meeting ready. If you’re working from home and worry about looking put together everyday for video meetings, hang a blazer on the back of your chair the night before and then you can just throw it on when it’s time for your meeting.
Head Gear
Doing your hair, throwing on a headband, or putting on a headscarf is another way to elevate your video call casual. Your hair is probably taking up most of the frame during these calls, so jazz it up a bit. I’m usually pretty unimaginative at coming up with different ways to wear my hair, but recently I’ve been trying to be a bit more creative by adding accessories or styling it differently.
Comfy on the Bottom
One thing I’ve learned throughout the many zoom quizzes and video catch ups is that you’ll be sitting in one position for a while. Considering most video calls last over an hour, it’s a good idea to wear something fairly comfy on the bottom. I recommend wide-leg trousers, leggings, joggers, or just a dress, so that you’re not being pinched and constricted by jeans when you’re trying to focus during an important meeting or just remember which spice girl was the oldest.
Thank you so much for reading this week’s blog post. Comment down below what you’ve been wearing for zoom calls and video chats. Have you been putting on a full outfit, or just dressing up your upper half? Remember get your phone/laptop set up with good lighting and at the right angle so that your outfit can really be appreciated on camera. (I recommend finding some natural window light if you can and angling your camera straight on or tilted downwards a tiny bit.) Be sure to check back next week for a new post, and follow me on Instagram in the mean time to see what I get up to. I’m trying to get to 4,000 followers, so please tell your friends if they’re not already following! It would mean the world. Have a lovely week and stay safe!
